What is the Videxio Skype for Business Gateway-as-a-Service?

Videxio’s Skype for Business Gateway-as-a-Service allows devices registered to the Videxio Cloud service to seamlessly join Skype for Business meetings. Users on Videxio and Skype for Business will both retain their native end-user experience. The Videxio Skype for Business Gateway-as-a-Service will also make direct point-to-point calls between Skype for Business clients and purpose-built videoconferencing or soft-clients devices registered on the Videxio service.

The Videxio Skype for Business Gateway-as-a-Service connects Skype for Business environments with devices registered on the Videxio service.

These are the main user scenarios that will be supported in the first release:

  • A Skype for Business user can call directly to a device registered on the Videxio service.
  • A device registered on the Videxio service can call directly to a Skype for Business user.
  • A device registered on the Videxio service can call into a Skype for Business meeting.

Some additional scenarios we hope to support in the near future.

  • A Skype for Business user can add a device registered on the Videxio service into an ongoing Skype for Business meeting.

When will the service become available?

We anticipate the service will go into full production, late in Q4 2017.

Users may find the ability to use some call-flows, however, this should be considered beta at this time and not used for mission-critical calls.

What will the user experience be for a device registered on the Videxio service that has called into a Skype for Business meeting?

Users will see a filmstrip layout of 1 large speaker, with a single row of up to 4 thumbnails of other participants at a resolution optimized for the participant´s device.

Note: the limitation of up to 4 thumbnails is due to Skype for Business Meeting Server will only send a total of 5 individual participants.

What will be the user experience for a Skype for Business user?

Users will maintain a native Skype for Business meeting experience with a gallery video view of the participants.

Which purpose-built videoconferencing or soft-clients devices can call into a Skype for Business meeting?

The device must be registered on the Videxio service.
Videxio supports My Meeting Video and these purpose-built videoconferencing devices for registration on the Videxio service.

Which purpose-built videoconferencing or soft-clients devices can a Skype for Business user invite/call into a Skype for Business meeting?

The device must be registered on the Videxio service.

Where is the Videxio Skype for Business Gateway-as-a-Service service hosted?

The service is hosted in Microsoft Azure Cloud for greatest compatibility and performance with Office 365.

 

How does a Skype for Business user invite/call a device on Videxio into a Skype for Business meeting?

  • The device or user on the Videxio service should be in the Skype for Business contact list (via AD).
  • Search for it, and add it to the meeting.
  • The device must be invited by a meeting presenter/host.

Videxio does not recommend having regular users manually convert their SIP URIs on Videxio, however this is the process.

Example: If the SIP URI for the device or user on the Videxio service is:

boardroom@company.com

The converted SIP URI for the Skype for Business client to dial would be:

boardroom__company.com@ms.videxio.com

How does a user dial from a device or soft-client on the Videxio service into a Skype for Business meeting?

For this, the user would need a control application that can read the calendar invitation and convert the meeting link to a SIP URI. The following control applications can be used for that:

  • Videxio MMV (new)
  • Existing room control system
  • Synergy Sky Meeting Server

How to schedule a Skype for Business meeting to include a device or user on the Videxio service?

Schedule a new Skype for Business meeting in Microsoft Outlook through the normal workflow and add the required devices or users on the Videxio service to the meeting invitation. A prerequisite for this is that the VC systems are added to Microsoft Exchange as a Room resource.

How to dial directly from a Skype for Business user to a device or user on the Videxio service?

To be able to easily search for devices or users on the Videxio service in your Skype for Business client and add them to your local contact list. Just create the devices or users on the Videxio service as a normal user in AD. And set the attribute msRTCSIP-PrimaryUserAddress to the SIP address of the VC system. Then you can just look up the device in your local Skype for Business contact list and right click and click Start Video Call to make the call.

How to dial directly from device or user on the Videxio service on the Videxio service to a Skype for Business user?

This is straightforward. From the device on the Videxio service just dial the SIP URI of the Skype for Business user.
